Parallel bar dip

Vertical push on parallel bars. From a straight-arm support, lower until the shoulders are level with the elbows and press back up.

Technique

  1. Start in support: elbows locked, shoulders pressed down, slight forward lean.
  2. Lower under control, elbows travel back, not out.
  3. Bottom: shoulder level with the elbow (about 90 degrees), no collapsing forward.
  4. Press to full lockout.

Common mistakes

  • Going too deep with collapsed shoulders: overloads the front of the shoulder.
  • Swinging the legs for momentum.
  • Incomplete lockout at the top.
